Since the outbreak of the new variant of coronavirus omicron in the United States, the vaccines are under the scrutiny of medical experts. After the research and studies conducted by scientists and medical researchers around the world, it was found that the initial two doses of the vaccines were not able to tackle the severity of the omicron strain.
The Need For The Fourth Vaccine Dose Will Arise
The new strain was also found to be more contagious and due to this the World Health Organization labeled this variant as the “Variants of concern”. On the other hand, in comparison to the delta version, the omicron was found to be less severe and carries few symptoms.
The transmissible nature of the omicron has led to rising in the covid 19 cases and in some days only this variant took over the delta and became the dominant version of covid 19 in the United States.
As per the data available with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the average seven days cases in the country have surpassed more than 800,000 and they are further increasing in some parts of the US at an alarming rate.
Now according to the reports, medical researchers are in favor of the fourth dose of vaccination but with certain terms and conditions.
Earlier last week also the CEO of Pfizer claimed that the company is working on the variant-specific vaccine and will be rolled out in the market by March 2022. He also claimed that the demand for the fourth dose of the vaccine will arise during the mid of year 2022 and it is expected that the pandemic might end by 2024 if people will respond positively to the vaccines and get themselves vaccinated as soon as possible.
The medical professionals in the USA are citing the example of Israel, where the studies found that the need for the fourth dose will be high in some months and the vaccine will be able to produce more antibodies as compared to the booster shots.
Although the research also states that even the fourth dose won’t be able to provide as much protection required to fight against the omission variant. It must be noted that this is the initial research and more data is actually required to come to a final conclusion.
Vaccine developer, Pfizer also claimed that just like the initial two jabs of vaccines, the efficiency and effectiveness of the booster shots will also fade away and will become less power to fight against any new variant of covid 19 in the future.
The fourth dose will help in reducing the chances of getting severely hit by the covid 19 virus and lower down the probability of getting hospitalized. The booster shot is able to cut short the hospitalization rate and medical experts in the country are continuously urging the people of the United States to receive the vaccination at the earliest.
