People are so obsessed with watching TV, especially children. Nowadays they don’t prefer playing outside, instead, they always like to watch TV or watch anything on their smartphones.
TV Watching Linked With Potential Fatal Blood Clots
According to Scientists, you should take a break from watching TV, to avoid blood clots. According to the research, the study says that if you are watching TV for more than 4 hours then it could be one of the causes of blood clots.
Venous thromboembolism is a term referring to the blood clots in the vein, which happens due to TV viewing. These types of blood clots could be deadly and incurable if they break off and travel to the Heart and Lungs.
While you are watching TV then you might be sitting in a cramped position which will collect all your blood in your extremities and it will not circulate in the body which will lead to the cause of blood clots.
And most importantly those who are watching TV have a habit of eating junk food which would lead to Obesity and High Blood Pressure which will raise the likelihood of the blood cells.
There are three types of blood clots that happen in the vein of our body are Superficial Venous Thrombosis, Deep Vein Thrombosis, and Pulmonary Embolism. So Superficial Venous Thrombosis is the blood clot that happens while watching TV. Superficial Vein thrombosis is a kind of blood clot formed in a superficial vein of our body. The superficial vein is a vein present near the surface of our body.
Watching TV more than four hours a day can increase the risk to 35% of getting blood clots. According to a study, it’s said that people who are physically active and do exercises regularly do not eliminate the increased risk of blood clots caused by watching TV for a longer time duration or period of time.
There was a recent analysis in which around 1, 31,421 participants participated in all of the participants were either 40years or older than that and were without pre-existing venous thrombosis. The questionnaire was assessed by how much time is spent on TV. And the categories were made like prolonged viewers (watching TV at least 4 hours per day) and seldom viewers (watching TV less than 2.5-3hrs per day).
The duration of this research ranged from 5.1 to 19.8 years. That means scientists waited till that was the time for the result. After the result came out they found that a total of 964 participants developed venous thrombosis.
They differentiated between prolonged viewers and seldom viewers who have the highest rate of chances of getting a venous thrombosis blood clot and they found that prolonged viewers have 1.35 times more chances to develop the venous thrombosis blood clot than seldom viewers.
Dr. Kunutsor said that watching TV for long-duration reduces motion in the body and leads to an increase in the risk of venous thrombosis. This is why people who have gone through any surgery or they have long travel from the flight are always told to move.
When you are sitting or sleeping for a long period of time then blood doesn’t circulate in your body instead of that all the blood is collected at one place which leads to an increase in the risk of blood clots.
And people have a habit of eating junk food while watching TV and they eat a lot while watching TV which would lead to obesity and high blood pressure which increases the chances of getting a blood clot.
Dr. Kunutsor concluded by saying that people should not watch TV for more hours and should watch it at a limit. There should be proper time balance for watching TV and also doing exercise so that the proper circulation of blood in our body should be going on.
