It has been several days since the Covid-19 hospitalizations were rising in Orange County. On 21st January 2022, the county’s hospitalizations due to Covid-19, as per specific reports, had seen a dip of 50 patients.
Hospitalizations Due To Covid-19 Falls By 4% In The Orange County
It might not seem like much of a deal, but since it is the first absolute decline in the number of hospitalizations in the county after the new variant of COVID-19, namely the Omicron variant, was in the act of spreading around, makes the declining numbers even more impressive. The Orange County Health Care Agency reported this.
What were the numbers before and after the decline?
There were 1,232 reported hospitalized patients on Wednesday and Thursday. That number dropped down to 1183. Not only that but also the number of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) patients saw a decrease from 207 on Wednesday to 199 on Thursday.
What was the availability of hospital beds?
Reports say that ICU beds available on Thursday were around 19.4% of the total number of beds hospitals could offer. At the same time, there was 61% availability of ventilators.
What was the number of reported outbreaks?
So, an outbreak can be declared when three or more residents are infected with the COVID-19 virus. In the living facilities assisted by the elderly, there were 37 as per reports on Tuesday. Whereas in the skilled nursing facilities, the number was either 30 or 29.
Even the County officials are helping the assisted living and nursing facilities with the staffing assistance and tests for COVID-19. According to Dr. Clayton Chau (Chief Health Officer, Orange County), these tests would help the people around to calculate the risk and that the operators can keep open during the visiting hours.
Dr. Chau also said that infected healthcare workers are allowed to join work because of the lack of surety if there are enough health workers such as nurses and doctors in the hospital to attend those many patients. These health care workers were allowed to fulfill their duty by the state officials themselves.
Details and number of Vaccination in the County:-
• 2,37,244 people in Orange County have been fully vaccinated from the COVID-19 virus. This is according to the data published on Thursday.
• People vaccinated using the Pfizer or Moderna were raised from 22,05,067 in the week gone by to 22,19,206 by the latest reports.
•The first of Johnson & Johnson was given to 1,52,694 people till the last week, which saw a rise till 1,53,238. The booster shots also increased by 67,330 new people.
Cases in the Orange County Jail
On Friday of the last week, there were only 202 inmates who were COVID-19 infected as of Wednesday. 60 newly booked inmates were also infected. The newly booked inmates and some previous inmates got newly infected, which increased the number of infected inmates by 275.
According to the reports, children in the age group of 5 to 11 years old are the least vaccinated age group in the area. This is also owed to the fact that these children have just recently been allowed to be vaccinated. Although the number of vaccination in this group is on the rise and now is 57,435 children, there is also a large number of 2,11,145 children who are still not vaccinated.
Conclusion
The reducing number of hospitalizations in Orange County is a ray of hope towards a better future. Only your irresponsibility can make this situation worse. Among the hospitalized COVID-19 patients, 85% of them were unvaccinated. So it is visible that unvaccinated people have a higher probability of getting affected. Unfortunately, 3 deaths occurred on Thursday, which took this month’s death tally to 15 due to COVID-19.
