We all live in a fast-paced world, and most of us are always up and about to do something, hence we get little or no time to cater to our health and to an extent ourselves. As we talk about health, food happens to be one of the most vital factors affecting health. With innumerable researches going on, we get to see new benefits and even disadvantages of a lot of food essentials and products on a daily basis.
Pomegranate: An Anti-Aging Organic Delicacy
Recently, similar research was put forth by a team of researchers from the University of Washington, that highlighted benefits that pomegranate comes bearing like muscle-strengthening, mitochondrial health, and even anti-aging solutions. As people turn old, infirmities amongst them become common. Surprisingly, the research suggests that pomegranates contain an extract called Urolithin A which is known to protect old-aged people from such infirmities.
This would ease so many difficulties that old adults face in their daily lives. Its strengths are not only their mitochondrial health but their physical endurance as well. While many might think that these benefits are limited to certain people only; even people with chronic diseases can enjoy its pros. Also, those who wish to stay active in their later stages of life can also rely on it. This statement was backed by Professor David Marcinek too.
Such a compound and its benefits are also available wrapped up in the form of a pill and powder extracts as well. It is observed that Urolithin A is produced by gut bacteria which happens to extract ellagitannins in the form of food. As people age, a decrease in
mitochondrial health is observed too but with the help of Urolithin A, the body becomes capable of recharging these cells and slowing down the process of aging. While the body does produce Urolithin with aging and diseases, their pace and the process are affected.
Professor Marcinek also added that Urolithin balances the degradation of mitochondria i.e mitophagy.
Though the body is equipped with such a technique that recognizes the failure it tears down the mitochondria and breaks them down to elemental components which are reused by the cell. But with aging, the body becomes less efficient in carrying out this process, and hence as a result we observe that muscles no longer remain as functional as they used to be.
The mitochondria produce Adenosine Triphosphate more commonly referred to as ATP which in turn helps the cell function. In a recent study, to help establish a precedent for the claimed benefits of Urolithin A, a bunch of 66 participants were taken into account with poor levels of ATP and were given Urolithin A on a daily basis or a placebo. The results were both exciting and surprising as it did improve their mitophagy and hence their physical endurance. Furthermore, when put through tests, they performed better in exercises like six-minute walks and hence felt younger. Also, they observed betterment in fatigue resistance and that too in a short duration of four months.
Professor Marcinek also mentions that this supplement could be proved useful for those who cannot get the right or even minimal amount of exercise due to their poor health or the disease that they possess.
Moreover, pomegranate happens to be one of the more popular fruits among people and is also referred to as a superfood. While the benefits of Urolithin A are unbeatable, it also comes with bearing pros like lowering blood pressure and strengthening the bones. All this is wrapped up with a mouth-watering taste and makes it a perfect organic delicacy.
