Elon Musk’s Neural Link Aims To Connect The Human Brain Using A Chip

Elon Musk’s Neuralink attempts to unravel one more mystery of nature by intruding into the human brain and connecting it to electronic gadgets. It has searched for a clinical director who would help the company pursue the ambitious project.

The company desires to empower humans to talk to the gadgets just by thinking and materializing an abstract emotion in a visual form in the computer.

Elon Musk's Neural Link Aims To Connect The Human Brain Using A Chip

The company has taken up a project that would be operational in the quest to find solutions and treatments to neurological disorders. It aims to develop a ‘brain-computer interface’ that could extract the emotions and helpful information from the human mind and process it in a wireless device.

People who are suffering from paralysis or paraplegia would be able to operate the computer and several devices without the help of limb mobility through a neural link chip. The chip’s features are described as around 23 millimeters, about 0.9 inches in diameter that could be a fit bit in the human skull with tiny wires in it.

The ones with spinal cord injury are to be tested by the company initially so as to help them speak and move using their brain waves.

A job post has been made for recruiting a clinical trial director and the perks given as the candidate would be able to work with the topmost qualified doctors and engineers to actualize the vision of neural link.

Also, he will be certified as the one working with Neuralink’s first clinical trial participants. This is not new for Elon Musk, who is known for his excellent skills in unifying experts from diverse setups to develop phenomenal technologies.

Elon Musk had revealed the launch of a neurotechnology startup way back in 2019. The job post for the clinical director has once again fired the idea with much enthusiasm among scientists worldwide.

Recently the company came with video footage showcasing a monkey playing a video game after being implanted with a neurotechnology chip.

The information from the brain could be transmitted to process the sense of touch. The concept behind this technological prowess stems from the idea that the brain consists of an accumulation of neurons producing electric signals and the electrodes in the brain could record them to simulate different experiences going on in a person’s head.

Neuralink would attempt to decode the electric signals from the brain just like in the case of monkeys. The electrodes more than 2000 in number placed in several parts of the motor cortex could decode the brain waves enabling the coordination between arms and hand mobility.

An emotion of kissing someone or the sensation of human touch that can only be felt will now be visualized on a screen through conceiving and implantation of a chip. This would potentially bring humanity to an even footing with super-intelligent computers.

Although it has moved several minds and gathered admiration for helping hopeless patients, it is not far from criticism as well. It has concerned several people for the ill effects of technological prowess and can create a potential threat to mental health through the misuse of the technology.

Deriving an instance from an episode of a movie, the Black Mirror where the characters could replay their past and imaginations through the inserted chip in the brain and put their mental health on the edge of a sword.

Another episode, namely, ‘Black Museum’ had some characters who performed dangerous experiments on several doctors and patients without consent breaching their privacy in the plea of medical research.
