According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, a booster dose is very effective and reduces 90 percent chances of getting hospitalized and fatality. In the United States, around 35 percent of eligible citizens have received a booster dose.
CDC: The Citizens With Weak Immune Systems Will Be Injected With The Fourth Dose
The current data is not satisfactory as more booster doses need to be administered if we want to reduce the infection rate and positivity rate in the country in the upcoming months.
With the arrival of the new subtype of the Omicron variant BA.2 in the US, new studies are being conducted and have found BA.2 to be milder than BA.1. Although it possesses more transmissible power and can travel 1.5 times much faster than the original omicron variant.
Covid 19 vaccines in the US are being examined by scientists and researchers to know their effect on immunocompromised citizens. The objective of the research is to determine the effect of the additional dose on immunocompromised individuals. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, US CDC is working continually to promote vaccinations and limit the spread of the Covid 19.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the citizens who are moderate to severely immunocompromised are more vulnerable to the Covid 19 infection and hence have higher chances of getting hospitalized and death.
Hence, CDC recommends introducing fourth covid vaccine shots for them after the five months of the third dose. It has become very important because of the increase in the reinfection rate in the United States especially during the Winter peak of the omicron strain.
The US CDC is analyzing the impact of Covid 19 booster shots on immunocompromised people and also in the month of January 2022, the agency reduced the time gap between the initial doses and booster shots by 1 month, and now it is 5 months.
Now as per the latest reports available, the Federal medical authority is planning to again revise the guidelines for vaccination and encourage booster shots after three months to all the eligible citizens in the US.
The new guideline for the fourth shot will be applicable to all citizens above the age of 18. The citizens who have taken booster shots of Pfizer and BioNTech of 12 years or older will also be eligible to take the fourth shot, as per the medical agency.
According to the latest studies, Americans have found weak immune systems and there are several reasons that are responsible for the low immunity such as medical conditions, medical history, chronic disease, critical illness, and much more. Keeping in mind such issues rolling out the fourth dose of vaccine is a must.
Also, the vaccine manufacturers are working on developing strain-specific vaccination in order to fight against the omicron and future strains in the United States.
Although, the US CDC is looking for more results and opinions that are required for the fourth vaccine shot. The citizens must be educated about the protection that the fourth dose will provide to immunocompromised people.
