Can you believe that one of Marvel’s directors was mistaken for being a robber and police officials put handcuffs on him? Sounds like the script of a prank video, right? But this is not a prank video and this really happened in Atlanta.
Marvel movie director Ryan Coogler was mistaken for being a bank robber and was detained in Atlanta after he went to State Bank of America to withdraw money from his account.
Coogler went to the bank wearing a green hoodie with sunglasses and a white mask and there was nothing unusual about his look that might have made the bank people mistake him for a robber.
Oh No! Police Officials Put Handcuffs On Black Panther’s Director Ryan Coogler After Mistaking Him For A Bank Robber
Then Coogler handed a withdrawal slip to the cashier and he also gave a note with a message along with the withdrawal slip. It was the message written on the note that made the bank think that the person in front of them might be a robber.
As per the report, the message by Coogler reads, “ I would like to withdraw $12,000 cash from my checking account. Please do the money count somewhere else. I’d like to be discreet”. Thinking from Coogler’s side and the amount of money that he wants to withdraw, and being a famous person, there is nothing unusual about passing a message asking the officials to be discreet about the money and its counting.
But the note and the content in it gave a very wrong impression to the bank cashier and she called the cops for an attempted robbery.
The cops came into the scene within minutes and detained two people who have been waiting for Coogler near his SUV. The cops then went on to detain Coogler and actually put handcuffs on him and brought him outside.
After an investigation, the cops understood that the mistaken bank robber is the director Ryan Coogler and the whole situation was a mistake from both their and the bank’s side.
According to reports, the cashier was a pregnant woman who has mistaken Coogler for a robber and she reported her suspicions to the boss and they called 911.
Ryan Coogler wasn’t pleased with all the drama that unfolded at the bank and it is said that Coogler has noted the badge numbers of all the officials after he was released. Ryan Coogler, known for his Marvel movie Black Panther is all set to release his second Black Panther movie in November 2022.
