Amber Heard Got Cut Down From The Aquaman Sequel Following Her Violent Divorce

Amber Heard testified that following her violent divorce from Johnny Depp; she had to “push incredibly hard” to stay working in Hollywood.

On Monday, Heard returned to the testimony for the third day of Depp’s defamation trial against her, accusing him of orchestrating a “smear campaign” to harm her career and image after she won a domestic violence restraining order against him in 2016. Heard claimed that Depp’s “advanced PR machine” plotted to call her a liar in the press, causing her to lose acting contracts and beauty endorsements.

While Heard did eventually participate in 2017’s Justice League, calling it the “greatest cinematic opportunity” of her career at the time, she said she had to battle for the job.

Why Amber Heard Got Cut Down From The Role In Aquaman

I was fired from jobs and campaigns. I struggled to maintain my job and the greatest cinematic chance I’d ever had in Justice League, which included the potential of Aquaman. Because of the divorce, I had to work very hard to stay in the Justice League.”

“It’s structured like a three-picture option,” Heard explained of her contract to feature in the superhero franchise. I agreed to do Justice League, which debuted my character. The charge is minimal in comparison to what it will become if and when the other options or movies under that umbrella are completed.

So that was the deal for Justice League, which could later become Justice League 2, Aquaman, or any other movie in the DC Universe. Aquaman became the second film, and Aquaman 2 became the third. And the charge keeps rising.” Heard stated that she got $1 million for Aquaman and doubled that much for the sequel, in which she supposedly appears for only 10 minutes.

Warner Bros Wanted To Cut Her Aquaman 2 Role Entirely

Heard testified that she battled hard to be included in Aquaman 2, claiming that Warner Bros., the film’s studio, “didn’t want to include me.” Heard confirmed that she was “actively scheduling dates for filming” for Aquaman 2 before Depp’s alleged smear campaign. When asked if she was actively participating after Depp’s team labeled her a liar in the press, she responded, “Of course.” “No way. At that point, contact ceased.”

Heard revealed that she ended up starring in a “very pared-down version” of the original Aquaman 2 scenario for her character Mera. “I was given a screenplay and then given revised copies of the script that took away sections that had action in it, that represented my character and another character fighting with one another, and they basically cut a chunk out of my part,” Heard testified. “They simply took out a bunch.”

Depp is suing Heard for $50 million over an op-ed she published in the Washington Post in 2018 on her experiences as a domestic abuse survivor. Though Heard never names Depp by name, his attorneys believe that allusions to Depp (and Heard’s earlier abuse allegations before their 2017 divorce) are obvious and have harmed Depp’s career and image. Heard filed a countersuit for $100 million, claiming that Depp and his legal team defamed her by declaring her charges fake.
