Released in 2021, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings starred Simu Liu, Awkwafina and Ben Kingsley. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, it turned out to be one of the most successful episodes of the MCU’s Phase 4.

The film followed Shang-Chi, a valet in San Francisco who comes to terms with the past as the Ten Rings organization crashes into his life. Commenting on the action in the film, an important factor in most MCU films, lead actor Simu Liu said in an interview with Empire:
“There are a lot of tributes to Jackie [Jackie Chan] in there, and it’s also a testimonial from Brad [Brad Allan]– he really loved the genre of kung fu, martial arts, wuxia, and really incorporated so many different homages and references throughout the fights in the film.
Shang Chi 2 in pre-production
In a few months of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the studio has decided to announce that a sequel is in the works. Commenting on the direction the sequel might take, MCU architect Kevin Feige said in an interview with comicbook.com:
“We certainly have a lot of ideas of where to take them and where to put them. What’s so fun, we know the movie works when it’s not just the main character people ask for, but it’s the co-stars or supporting actors people ask for.

With the film currently in pre-production, Simu Liu is expected to return as the main character alongside Awkwafina. While unconfirmed, we should probably see Ben Kingsley, Meng’er Zhang, and Florian Munteanu reprising their roles as well.

One of the most active celebrities on Twitter, the actor has never been shy about teasing and joking his fans. Commenting on speculation that Shang Chi would fail, the actor tweeted after the film’s success:

Barbie actor Simu Liu tweeted on August 4, joking that his career may soon be over. Commenting on the legacy he hopes to leave behind, he continued:
When my career is over in two months, I just hope people will say “oh yeah, I remember Simu. I loved that guy, he never tried to sell me an NFT.”

NFTs have become a popular way in which many celebrities after their prime make money. Many fans criticized the decision, believing it was ruining their legacy with one fan responding to Simu Liu referring to NFTs as just a waste of money.
