John Boyega Says Lucasfilm Has Improved On Protecting Stars

John Boyega Says Lucasfilm Got Better By Standing By His Side star wars actors and actresses against bullying.

Although his breakthrough role for many moviegoers was as Moses in the sci-fi cult classic, Attack the block, John Boyega has become more recognizable worldwide to audiences as Finn in Lucasfilm’s star wars Continuation Trilogy. When he was the first face featured in the original trailer for The force awakens, Boyega was the subject of racist attacks from some people who could not understand a black actor as one of the franchise leads.

It didn’t help when it came to Lucasfilm star wars Sequel Trilogy, John Boyega felt he was underserved by them. Although Finn was a prominent co-protagonist in the force awakensher role was demoted in the next two films, leaving critics and fans disappointed with the character’s trajectory and importance in the story.

Whether it’s battling racism within the fandom or feeling underserved by the franchise itself, John Boyega always talks about his experiences in star wars, although he remains a fan of the property. In an interview with Men’s Health, Boyega was asked about Obi Wan Kenobi actress Moses Ingram, who faced similar racist attacks from some people online. Lucasfilm publicly supported her, to which Boyega acknowledged that although Ingram had been warned early on of potential harassment, he was not:

“I’m the one who brought this to the fore… At least the people who are getting into it now, after my time, [they’re] cool… [Lucasfilm is] going to make sure you are well supported and at least you [now] go through this franchise knowing that everyone is going to have [your] return. I’m glad I said everything at that time.

John Boyega and Moses Ingram are two of the most prominent examples of actors and actresses in the star wars franchise harassed by disgruntled fans. Jake Lloyd, Ahmed Best, Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran have also faced abuse from fans. The fact that this continues to happen may be indicative of the fact that Lucasfilm’s franchise has been around for 45 years, leading some segments of the fandom to feel a sense of entitlement.

It’s worth noting that while it’s okay to dislike a movie, TV series, or even a performance in it, there’s a difference between constructive criticism and outright harassment. It’s great that John Boyega continues to talk about his experience with Lucasfilm, and it’s clearly led the company to stand by his side. star wars bullying skills.
