Richard “Hutch” Barry: who is he? Five English bulldogs mauled a man to death.
In Selma, California, a man was recently killed by a group of five English Bulldogs while out for a walk. Richard “Hutch” Barry, 59, was mauled by the dogs that had escaped from a nearby residence on Sunday, July 31, around 1 a.m. He was killed by mutilation.
While driving home that Sunday, Teresa Barry and her husband, Ronny Barry, who is also Hutch’s brother, saw the attack. Teresa made an effort to get her brother-in-law off the dogs, but was unsuccessful. As soon as she saw the situation, she jumped out of the car and went to a neighbor’s house to get a bat to try and break up the pack of dogs. However, she tripped and three of the dogs jumped in her face.
She revealed to CBS47 News and KSEE24, “He’s just yelling, ‘Help me! Please help me! He’s got all these dogs on him, and they keep biting him. C It was truly a nightmare. The fear was evident on his face. According to the Selma Police Department, officers provided first aid to Hutch after arriving at the scene at Goldridge and Balboa streets before paramedics arrived. The officers were assisted by the animal control officer in capturing the dogs. The canines were quarantined and tested for rabies. “It was determined during the investigation that the dogs were escaped from a nearby property and attacked the victim as she walked through the area,” the police department said.
While attempting to save Hutch, the deceased victim’s sister-in-law also suffered a cut and several bruises. She told Fox26 News, “We don’t know why they crossed the street and came down three houses to attack him. Several neighbors also helped out, but they didn’t know how to handle five dogs. The entire event was filmed, and it appears officers tasered and shot the dogs to subdue them. A witness reported seeing “bloody dogs”. “The dogs will be in jail until this case is heard, at which time animal control will assess their viability to return home, if at all,” Selma PD chief Rudy Alcaraz said. He said the dog’s owner was not home at the time of the attack and was shaken by it. In addition, he helps with the probe.
Hutch’s brother has ALS and is unable to walk; as a result, he asks his wife to help Hutch. Teresa remarked: ‘I might have been in a similar situation to Hutch if the police hadn’t arrived at that precise moment, because they were only determined to hurt. I feel confused and lost. I feel like I let him down. And I feel like I’ve let my wife down since I couldn’t save her brother.
