Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu made a joke targeting Warner Bros. about the cancellation of Bat girl.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery was canceling bat girl and Scoob! Holiday destination for tax deductions. The news has been the subject of intense scrutiny online, given that both films are nearing completion, and when it comes to the DC Extended Universe movie, it leads to another moment of negative press for the franchise, which has already had its share of bad PR. Now, Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu has made an interesting joke related to this situation.
On his official Twitter, Simu Liu shared the following tongue-in-cheek tweet, which is clearly a swipe at Warner Bros. for having canceled Bat Girl:
What’s interesting about this joke is that it shows that Simu Liu isn’t afraid to speak negatively about the powers that be. Sometime before the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, he criticized Disney CEO Bob Chapek for his comments that the film’s theatrical release and its shortened theatrical window was an “experiment”. This joke made at the expense of Warner Bros. Discovery following the cancellation of bat girl is interesting considering he’ll be starring in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming movie Barbiewhich will also be distributed by WB Pictures.
Here is the synopsis of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings:
“Simu Liu stars as Shang-Chi in Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious organization of the Ten Rings.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script written by David Callaham, the MCU film stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Meng’er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, Ben Kingsley, and Tony Leung.
