Jamie Foxx teased some details regarding the Spawn reboot and how it is similar to Joker.
A new adaptation of Todd McFarlane Spawn has been in development for many years, with many talents attached to the project. Now, Jamie Foxx has given an update regarding the reboot.
While promoting his new Netflix movie day shift, Jamie Foxx was asked about the upcoming Spawn reboot, and reiterated that he is still in conversation with Todd McFarlane about the project, and even compared the scale and ambition of the reboot to that of Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix’s acclaimed DC Comics movie, Joker:
“I spoke to Todd [McFarlane]. And the thing is, we want to make something so special because I remember seeing the early Spawn movies and seeing the HBO versions. We have something that almost looks like an original, without giving too much away. It starts out in such a cool way, and it’s not a big budget. It’s kinda like when they did Joker. The Joker yes is there, but the story of this man who is on fire is the same with what we do with it…”
Pictures from Warner Bros. Joker became one of the biggest hits in DC Films history. It became the first (and so far only) R-rated film to hit the $1 billion mark and earned Joaquin Phoenix an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. The success of that film has certainly inspired many other comic book adaptations that seek to tell smaller-scale stories that feel more like character studies than the typical superhero spectacle some have come to expect. When it comes to Spawn, it will be interesting to see Jamie Foxx and Todd McFarlane approach with that ambition in mind.
