With The Lord of the Rings: power rings all set to debut on September 2, 2022, news has started leaking about how the director of the original The Lord of the Rings film, Peter Jackson… was not involved in the filming of the series. The script was never sent by Amazon studios to the director, which is frankly disrespectful.

Peter Jackson never received the scripts for the series
The Lord of the Rings was the only fiction film to win an Oscar in the “best film” category. And not just a single Oscar, but the entire trilogy won 17 Oscars in the 3 year span from 2001 to 2003. And the man and the mind behind it all was director, Peter Jackson. The films were a huge success which saved the New Line Cinema from bankruptcy.

According to the director, Amazon Studios has promised to work with the director once he receives the scripts. But the scripts were never sent to the director, which was kind of hurtful since he was the man who introduced millions to JRR Tolkien’s world in the first place.

In a surprising turn of events, fans are somewhat relieved that the director isn’t involved in the current series. Several people claim that this was due to the failure (of some sort) of The Hobbit trilogy, while others claim it was JRR Tolkein’s estate that banned the director from entering and getting involved in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
KEEP JACKSON AWAY AT ALL COSTS.
Yes, the Lord of the Rings trilogy is a classic, but he’s never done anything else that had this kind of success at REMOTE and ultimately, that blind faith in Jackson ruined the Hobbit trilogy. pic.twitter.com/W2gyURkSnH

For the curious, as the articles point out, Tolkien’s family and estate had never liked movies. First, they were excluded. Second, Christopher Tolkien claimed that Jackson’s films “gutted” his father’s books and completely ruined them.

I like the Peter Jackson LOTR movies and parts of the Hobbit ones too (but too much has been added) but I feel like his time with the subject matter has passed and it’s time for someone one else to have a chance to bring Middle-earth to life

The director is not disappointed with the unprofessional behavior he faced from Amazon. The director said the following in an interview:
” I will watch it. I’m not the kind of guy who wishes for ill will. Making movies is hard enough. If someone makes a good movie or TV show, that’s something to celebrate. The only thing I’m looking forward to is actually seeing him as a perfectly neutral viewer.
It’s only a matter of time before the series debuts, with several people thinking it a flop while the other half consider it a masterpiece. Only time will tell what the future holds for Amazon the Lord of the Rings series.
The series is set to release on September 2, 2022 and will stream on Prime Video.
