Giancarlo Esposito has expressed interest in playing the MCU’s new Professor X.
Since Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, the big screen rights to the Fantastic Four and the X-Men have reverted to Marvel Studios. Now, MCU fans are excited to see how these two beloved properties are implemented into the ongoing canon. With that in mind, some have even expressed their desire to see new actors and actresses step into certain roles. One surprise, for example, is the prospect of Giancarlo Esposito playing Professor X.
As one of the industry’s most acclaimed character actors, Giancarlo Esposito is known for his intimidating screen presence. The actor is widely recognized for his role as Gustavo “Gus” Fring” in breaking Bad and You better call Saul, as well as his role as Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian among others. When asked about joining the MCU, potentially as Professor X, here’s what he said in a TikTok video from @countdowncitygeeks:
“So I haven’t worked for Marvel yet. I’ve been in a room with them and I’ve talked with them, and to answer your question, I think what they do is inspired by that mythological journey that Joe Campbell talked about, who happened to be a friend of George Lucas that George Lucas put in his stories, they do the same thing.
So, we talked about Magneto, we talked about Dr. Freeze, we talked about, who else are they talking about over there? Oh, Doom! And there’s Professor X. Pick one? I’m going to go for something a little different. I’m going to go tell the universe it’s Professor X.”
Stepping into the role made famous by Patrick Stewart in the original X-Men movies would be quite a daunting feat. However, Giancarlo Esposito would be a refreshing choice to play an updated version of Professor X, possibly the version that lives in Earth-616. If the MCU decides to move on from Stewart’s version and perhaps not bring in James McAvoy again, you can’t go wrong with this acclaimed actor.
Professor X last appeared in the MCU movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Here is the synopsis:
The MCU is unlocking the multiverse and pushing its boundaries further than ever before.
