Glenn Hirsch shot and killed a man on April 30, 2022 in Queens, New York. The tragic victim of the hate crime was Zhiwen Yan, a 45-year-old Chinese restaurant delivery man from Great Wall.
Glenn Hirsch, charged with the ruthless murder of Zhiwen Yan
Hirsch, also known as the “Duck Sauce Killer”, followed Yan as he delivered deliveries before shooting him dead in the affluent neighborhood of Forest Hills. He was detained and charged with murder and possession of lethal weapons.
Glenn Hirsch was out on bail when he was found dead at his home on Friday. He apparently died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds, sources said. Just before his court appearance the following morning, he died.
He may have committed suicide, police say. Police discovered his body and a lengthy suicide note in which he defended himself against the charges against him. He claimed the judgment was rushed and denied any role in Yan’s death. He claimed he refused to live out the rest of his days in prison because he knew he would be found guilty by the jury. Glenn Hirsch wrote the following in the letter:
He also claimed that Dorothy Hirsch, his wife, was not guilty. After police investigators seized at least eight handguns and ammunition from Dorothy Hirsch’s home in Briarwood, she was charged with eight counts of criminal possession of weapons.
In November 2021, Glenn Hirsch complained about the minimal amount of duck sauce that was sent with his food after making a delivery from a Chinese restaurant in New York. The 51-year-old customer harbored that resentment until April 2022, when it led to the cold-blooded murder of Zhiwen Yan, a delivery man and father of three.
On June 8, Hirsch was bailed out by his brother, which greatly frightened and alarmed the residents of Forest Hills. The Post was informed by the owner of the restaurant as follows:
While Glenn Hirsch was subject to a number of conditions, such as maintaining a safe distance from the restaurant and the bereaved relatives of the deceased, owner Ken Yang constantly feared for his safety and that of his staff. He had said:
After months of deliberate harassment, the murder took place. Melinda Katz, the Queens District Attorney, told the New York Daily News the following regarding the case:
Even restaurant management suggested that Glenn Hirsch’s attack was racially motivated. The whole neighborhood was surprised by Hirsch’s suicide. Ken Yang expressed his frustration with the unexpected turn of events. He remarked while pleading for information:
However, it is still unclear how Glenn Hirsch managed to obtain a gun while under strict limitations set by the court.
