The summer season is coming to an end. Despite some blockbusters like HEY and Jaws Back in theaters soon, the latest action-adventure film from Sony Pictures High-speed train debuted this weekend. Reviews are a bit mixed, but the opening numbers show that even the original projects can still shine in franchise releases. The David Leitch-directed film opened to less than $30.1 million. High-speed train made $12.6 million on Friday, including $4.6 million in Thursday previews.

Whereas High-speed train was the big winner, there have been other changes in development domestically and globally for 2022. Let’s take a look at those numbers below.
How far has it gone High-speed train managed to achieve so far?
Paramount Pictures’ Top Gun: Maverick continues to be an unstoppable juggernaut. While the sequel is the second film to hit the $1 billion mark since the COVID-19 pandemic began, maverick added another $7 million to the country ($662.5 million). The film surpassed that of James Cameron Titanic as the 7th highest-grossing film at the domestic box office. It should also be mentioned that maverick seeks to outdo both Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther.
Worldwide, Jurassic World: Dominion is now the 2nd largest in Hollywood box office hit of 2022 with $960.1 million surpassing the $951.3 million of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Another universally successful film, Minions: The Rise of Gru, smashed the $750 million mark at the worldwide box office.
As for the MCU, Thor: Love and Thunder exceeded Thor: Ragnarok ($315.1 million), making it the highest Thor released at the domestic box office with $316.1 million. The fourth sequel is approaching the $700 million mark worldwide.
This week in the box office top 5
Since High-speed train won first place, last week’s winner DC League of Super Pets takes second place with $11.2 million. In third is Jordan Peele Nope with $8.5 million. The film is expected to cross the $100 million mark very soon this week, making it Peele’s third film to do so. In fourth place is Thor: Love and Thunder with $7.6 million. Finally, in fifth place is Minions: The Rise of Gru with $7.1 million.
