Dave Franco recently shared his thoughts on playing the MCU’s Harry Osborn – a role previously played by his brother James Franco in Sam Raimi’s Spider Man movies.
Harry Osborn is the son of Norman Osborn, best known as Spider-Man’s nemesis the Green Goblin. In the comics, Harry has occasionally taken up the mantle of the Green Goblin for himself, and more recently has been cast as the force behind the demonic Kindred.
James Franco was the first actor to portray the character in Sam Raimi Spider Man trilogy, but apparently his brother isn’t ready to follow him in the role.
While promoting his new film Day shiftin which he appears alongside Jamie Foxx who previously played Spider-Man villain Electro, Dave Franco was asked about the role of Harry Osborn.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Franco was asked if there were any Spider-Man villains he’d like to play. When Franco said “You tell me, you know this world better than us!” the interviewer suggested that the MCU might need a Harry Osborn.
Dave Franco laughed off the suggestion, apparently feeling a bit uncomfortable about reprising a role that had previously been his brother’s. He has answered:
“It’s treading into territory that would be a bit tricky. You know what you mean when you say that! [laughs].”
Although the Osborns don’t appear to exist in the main MCU universe – Norman Osborn’s returning version of Willem Dafoe said as much when he crossed universes in Spider-Man: No Coming Home – new versions of Norman and Harry are set to appear in the animated series Spider-Man: Year Onewhich takes place in the multiverse of the MCU.
