Despite plans for various upcoming DC movies shelved, Xolo Maridueña blue beetle is apparently still on track for an August 2023 release from Warner Bros. Discovery.
The radical new approach of Warner Bros. Discovery vis-à-vis DC properties became evident when it was announced last week that Leslie Grace’s bat girl had been cancelled, when it was almost ready to be released. The future of several other DC projects is now in question.
The next blue beetle will be DC’s first film based on a Latino superhero and will be the character’s first appearance in a live-action film.
With blue beetle set to explore a new DC property that’s relatively disconnected from previous films, unlike bat girlwhich was to feature Michael Keaton’s Batman Returns, Warner Bros. execs. Discovery may have thought it would be easier to tie this movie to their new DC slate.
According to a report from THR, DC insiders say the movie is still on track for its 2023 release date, avoiding the slaughter that many other DC projects now face. blue beetle joins james gunn season 2 Peacemaker survive the wave of cancellations, with Gunn’s other DC projects also expected to continue.
The CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav also recently revealed that black adam, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and the flash should all still come out. This news came as a shock, given recent controversies and a felony charge against the flash starring Ezra Miller.
