The Suicide Squad Star Idris Elba wants his character, Bloodsport, to fight Superman in the DC Extended Universe.
In 2019, stories began to emerge that Idris Elba was in talks to take over the role of Deadshot from Will Smith for James Gunn. The Suicide Squad. Eventually, the filmmakers chose to go another direction, and for a while it was a big mystery who Idris Elba was going to play. Eventually, it turned out that the character he was playing was Bloodsport.
At the time of the film’s release, Bloodsport was a relatively obscure DC Comics character created by John Byrne. In the movie, the character’s big claim to fame was, aside from being a world-class assassin, he managed to put Superman in intensive care with a kryptonite bullet. However, not even director James Gunn knows which version of the character was shot. Idris Elba, on the other hand, still wants his character to fight the Man of Steel.
Speaking to Variety, Idris Elba said he would love to do a Superman story involving his character, Bloodsport, battling Superman:
“I would really like to tell the story of Superman. There is no doubt about it. Bloodsport against Superman. It has to happen.
It is currently unknown if Idris Elba will reprise the role of Bloodsport. The actor revealed he has a DC movie project in the works. Whether or not this has anything to do with Superman remains to be seen.
Idris Elba was last seen as Bloodsport in the DC movie, The Suicide Squad. Here is the synopsis:
Welcome to Hell – aka Belle Reve, the prison with the highest death rate in the United States of America. Where the worst super-villains are held and where they will do anything to get out – even join the super-secret and super-sleazy Force X task. Today’s do-or-die mission? Assemble a collection of crooks including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then, arm them heavily and dump them (literally) on the remote, enemy-soaked island of Corto Maltese. Traversing a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and government techs to ‘Amanda Waller in their ears, tracking their every move. And as always, one false move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone makes bets, smart money is against them, all of them.
