Thor Star Idris Elba isn’t ruling out a return to his role as Heimdall for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In the Thor films, Idris Elba’s Heimdall is the only character, aside from Thor himself, who appears in all of the God of Thunder solo films. The character is described as Thor’s best friend and sees everything across the universe. The character eventually died early in Avengers: Infinity War alongside Loki, setting Thor on his path to revenge against Thanos. However, the character had at least one final MCU appearance to make.
At the end of Thor: Love and ThunderNatalie Portman’s Jane Foster eventually dies in the fight against Gorr the Butcher God, and her body disappears the same way Odin died Thor: Ragnarok. During one of the film’s after-credits scenes, she is greeted by Idris Elba’s Heimdall. He then thanks her for watching over his son and welcomes him to Valhalla. However, this might not be the last time God appears in an MCU project.
In a recent interview with Collider, Idris Elba was asked whether or not he would return to the MCU as Heimdall. While he doesn’t confirm that would happen, he also doesn’t rule out the possibility:
“Almost his entire arsenal of gifts has been exploited in one way or another. He sees everything, you know. But he’s a hell of a warrior. We’ve also seen him as a warrior, and he has an immortality around him and that would be something that we haven’t really explored, so I think that might be interesting. Hey, look, you know, the Marvel world is always expanding. You never knew that.
Here is the synopsis of the film:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on an unprecedented journey – a quest for inner peace. But his retreat is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magic hammer, Mjolnir, as Mighty. Thor. Together they embark on a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s revenge and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
