HBO Dragon House won’t make the same mistake as its predecessor – every Starbucks cup was hunted down on set, according to showrunner, Ryan J. Condal.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Condal recounts how they all made sure no Starbucks cups were in sight during filming. Fans will remember this controversial scene in game of thrones where a paper cup was forgotten to be removed from the table, thus making an appearance in the final cut.
“[It was a] very guarded set – there was a lot of hunting at Starbucks. I mean, look, this stuff happens all the time. In this case, it turned out to be very – I mean it just shows that a lot of people have watched this series“, explains Condal.
Miguel Sapochnick, one of the showrunners, also mentioned in a interview with THR that they try to leave mugs wherever they can so they can paint them digitally. He joked that he wanted people to search for Starbucks cups, and whoever found one would win a prize!
House Of The Dragon brings new changes to the Game of Thrones saga
The prequel series should tell a different story and differentiate itself from the original series. Recent updates from the show’s executives have confirmed that there will be less sexual violence compared to game of thrones. The show will also stay true to its source material, thanks to George RR Martin for being involved in the creative process this time around.
Many changes were also made by the production team that would set it apart from game of thrones. The coveted Iron Throne has been remodeled and looks more authentic now, with up to 2,500 swords making up the iconic chair. Dragon House will arrive on HBO Max this August 21st.
