Ryan J. Condal, co-showrunner of the upcoming epic fantasy series, Dragon House, reveals the glorious reputation of the series’ dragons. He compares them to celebrities and, better still, to gods.
In his interview with SFX MagazineCondal shared some thoughts on the titular dragons.
“I do not think so [the dragons are] taken for granted as they are still a rather scarce resource at this time. At the height of the dragon dynasty I think there were 17 adults – I counted believe me – which is a lot but if you had a species on Earth where there are only 17, she would be so seriously threatened that you wouldn’t even be able to look at them. They certainly exist, and they’re ubiquitous in the sense that they’re always around because they’re so huge, but they’re still very special, and they’re sort of worshiped like gods. They are celebrities from that era, and in fact more famous and adored than most Targaryens who ride them.”
House of the Dragon will present dragons in their own way
Miguel Sapochnik, Dragon House co-showrunner, revealed that they had hundreds of different concepts and ideas for the design. In his interview with Empirehe shared the rigorous selection process and how they made each dragon different.
“Each new dragon has its own personality. This is what happens now in our last part of the animation – we apply personal character traits to each of the dragons. One of them has a [bad] leg. Another is much more like an eagle, because she’s a little neurotic. And another is like a grumpy old granny.”
The prequel to game of thrones saga will be set three centuries back and will tell the story of the origins of House Targaryen. It will follow the rise and fall of the empire that would lead to the devastating events of the Civil War. Dragon House will arrive on HBO Max this August 21st.
