Damon Lindelof, the creator of Lost and producer on HBO watchmensaid he would like to see Marvel Studios release fewer movies per year to make everyone feel more special.
Marvel has become a Hollywood powerhouse since the release of Iron Man in 2008, the first film produced under the Marvel Studios banner. As the company and its cinematic universe grew, Marvel began releasing multiple movies — and now Disney Plus series — every year.
As the MCU continues to impress fans and the general public, the question of fatigue has always hung over the company’s head and some, like Damon Lindelof, may worry about oversaturation.
In a recent interview with Vulture, Damon Lindelof expressed his admiration for Marvel but also said he wants the studio to take a slower approach to its release schedule.
While Lindelof acknowledged the desire to capitalize on people’s positive response to Marvel movies and the natural desire to grow the Marvel Cinematic Universe as quickly as possible, he said releasing one or two good movies a year could help them. make it even more special.
Sharing his thoughts on how Marvel Studios could change its approach to movie releases, Lindelof said:
” It’s a company. It’s an industry. And if you’re doing a few big Marvel movies, the instinct is, “We need to do more Marvel movies, and we need to expand that.” And I have this kind of inner feeling like, ‘Wow, I wish they’d done less because it would make everyone a little bit more special. But I watch them all… People don’t want things to end. I do.”
With the advent of Disney Plus and increasingly ambitious theatrical plans, Marvel is now releasing more projects faster than ever before. Next year alone, the studio is releasing four movies and at least four Disney Plus series.
While all of the individual projects continue to excite fans and expand the MCU in exciting new ways, perhaps slowing down these releases would allow fan anticipation to rise a bit more.
