She-Hulk Creator Confirming Daredevil Is Toned Down For MCU Is Proof Marvel Isn’t Ready For Big R-Rated Behemoths Like The Punisher

Daredevil has gone through several iterations over the years through films and films. And while the 2003 Ben Affleck movie wasn’t a big hit, the 2015 Netflix series more than made up for it. But in 2018, when Netflix canceled one of its most popular shows, fans were left shaken by this sudden turn of events.

She-Hulk will have a toned down version of Daredevil

It took a few years and a lot of begging from the fandom before rumors about Daredevil started to resurface again. This time it was not Netflix but under the direct management of Marvel Studios and Disney. And the best part of the rumor was that Charlie Cox would reprise the role of The Man Without Fear.

We finally saw Cox’s Matt Murdock back on our screens when Daredevil made an appearance in Spider-Man: No Coming Home in 2021. It was a little different shade of Matt than we were used to, but fans were excited to finally find him. And now, Matt Murdock will be back on our screens, but more on the lawyer side than the superhero side, if the sources are to believe.

Cox’s Matt Murdock/Daredevil will next be seen in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which will premiere this month on the Disney+ streaming service. And it looks like the version of Daredevil we’ll get in the new series will be a little (or a lot) different from what we’re used to.

In a recent interview, She-Hulk Showrunner Jessica Gao talked about how thrilled they were to be able to play such an amazing character, especially since the character already has such a loyal and massive fanbase.

Gao noted how she and the writing team were “shocked that we were able to use it.” But she raved about Cox for being “a wonderful actor and a wonderful human being.”

“What was so fun about bringing him and Daredevil into our world is that people have already seen a Daredevil that’s very dramatic, kinda heavy, very dark, brooding.”

But that very moment in the interview was what gave fans pause. The show’s creator went on to explain how it would bring out a lighter, perhaps funnier side to the dark and brooding hero of Hell’s Kitchen. I mean, a Daredevil, whose language consists of more than grunts and impertinence and threats, what Daredevil is that even? Not as we know, that’s for sure.

Don’t get me wrong, we have complete confidence in Cox’s acting abilities, it’s the character’s behavior that worries us the most. If even Daredevil comes with a PG-13 rating, won’t that take away the character itself? And what will that mean for the future of characters like the Punisher or the other Defenders?

When Disney acquired the rights for the rest of the Marvel properties like the X-Men and the Defenders, fans were happy to have everyone under one roof. But at the same time, many expressed concerns about what this would mean for more graphic, X-rated shows and movies – like Daredevil and Deadpool. Or even Punisher, if that ever happens in the future.

Returning to She-Hulkthe only thing fans can hope for now is, given the show’s own climate, which is much lighter than Netflix’s. daredevil, that’s not a definitive take on Matt Murdock. And that when EchoWhere Daredevil: Born Again comes to our screens, we’ll get our brooding vigilante back, not a watered down version of him.

Daredevil’s New Costume Is Much More Colorful

Daredevil will only have one appearance in the upcoming Disney+ series, and mostly on the lawyer side than the vigilante. The pop of yellow in the recently updated Daredevil costume we spotted in the She-Hulk trailer, could also be indicative of the more toned and colorful version of the character. That’s what we’ll probably see if Gao has anything to say about it.

“It was so fun to be able to do – and we do with every character cameo in the MCU – do we take them from the environment that you know them in, which is a much more dramatic, life-oriented role. action, a lot more on the serious side, and we bring them into our world and they play in a She-Hulk tone. And they got to explore and we can see a lighter side of that character.

Even though it will be different from what we are used to, we can only hope that there will be development in the next projects. And the lighter side of the character won’t take away from his darker roots going forward. From now on, we’re just thrilled to be able to see Cox don the red suit again and leap into the building, taking out one bad guy at a time.
