Mark Ruffalo defends the MCU from oversaturation critics by favorably comparing their variety to that of Star Wars.
While Marvel Studios movies and TV series have perhaps been the most culturally dominant force in popular geek culture in recent years, it’s not without its share of criticism. One of the most common criticisms against the franchise is that while there is a wide cast of characters, most stories follow a distinct formula with very little variety. However, Mark Ruffalo seems to disagree with this position and believes that, compared to star wars, the MCU has more to offer.
While speaking with Metro to promote the upcoming series She-Hulk, Mark Ruffalo was asked whether or not he agrees with the criticism that the MCU is over-saturating the market with all of its movies and TV series. Ruffalo defended the franchise, saying it offers variety while star wars does not:
“It’s not something that worries me. I understand that these things take their course and then something else happens. But what Marvel has done well is that inside the MCU, just like they do with the comics, they let a director or an actor sort of recreate each piece in their own style, in their own way. resemblance.
Marvel usually lets them bring that to the material. If you watch a Star Wars, you’ll get pretty much the same version of Star Wars every time.
Maybe there’s a little humor there. It might have a little different animation. But you’re still, really, in that same kind of world. But with Marvel, you can feel a whole different feeling even within the Marvel Universe.
While Mark Ruffalo is entitled to his opinion on the star wars franchise, to say that it offers less variety of stories is a bit wrong. While the franchise, particularly the Skywalker saga, is known for doing callbacks, films such as Rogue One, Solo, and even polarization The Last Jedi presented different styles that fit into the universe created by George Lucas. In addition, new series such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi Wan Kenobi are an exploration of different parts of the galaxy that go beyond a group of space wizards fighting with laser swords. Meanwhile, one can easily criticize the MCU for most of its projects feeling pretty formulaic.
