Daniel Laurie is aspiring to win Best Actor at this year’s TV Choice Awards for his portrayal of Reggie on the TV series Call The Midwife.
Everyone is speechless and ready to bid for the next prize after his standout performance as a young man with Down syndrome in the BBC historical drama.
Daniel has already appeared on TV shows such as “Stella”, “Vera” and “Finding Alice”, so this is not his first attempt at acting.
Her breakthrough role in “Call The Midwife” established her promising acting career from 2022.
Daniel Laurie’s parents are actor father Leslie Grantham and mother Jane Laurie
His acting is excellent, but it undoubtedly stems from his parents and family connected with show business.
Leslie Grantham, the handsome “Eastenders” actor, was his father. From 1984 to 1989, the late actor starred as the evil Den Watts.
Before making his television debut in 1982, Grantham had already served ten years in various prisons for the murder of Felix Reese in Osnabrück, Germany.
The German was shot dead by the former British army after the latter tried to rob the taxi driver while he was in debt.
Despite his criminal past, the acting community and audiences eventually accepted him due to his enthusiasm for the field. Eastenders audiences had come to expect more from his character Den Watts, aka Dirty Den, due to his enduring role on the show.
As a result, Leslie continued to play his role even after a long time, until a scandal made him famous.
At the age of 71, he passed away on June 15, 2018, after a long battle with lung cancer. His IMDb indicates that the films he had done previously would continue to be released until 2020.
Jane, Daniel’s mother, has also worked as an actress before, with her last film debut being in 1997. Jane’s IMDb page lists ten acting roles in which she mainly appeared in television series.
Among his many significant projects are “Dangerfield”, “Lytton’s Diary” and “The Last Place On Earth”.
Is the BBC actor’s family background Jewish?
It’s perhaps no surprise that Daniel Laurie comes from an amazing family in the entertainment industry and isn’t Jewish.
Her late father was an Englishman born to Adelaide Flinders and Walter William Grantham in Camberwell, London.
But after divorcing Jane in 2013, the ‘Eastenders’ and ‘The Bill’ actor moved to Bulgaria. It was not until June 2018 that he returned to the UK for cancer treatment.
Likewise, Jane, Daniel’s mother, is an Australian who was raised in a wealthy family of wine merchants. In 1977, she had first met Leslie at an acting school in London.
After 31 years of marriage, the couple divorced in 2013 and, according to Daily Mail UK, Leslie blamed his wife for the split.
The Grantham-Laurie family is not Jewish, as evidenced by Leslie and Jane’s ancestry from multiple countries.
