Franchises are making a lot of money these days, with multiple sequels, spinoffs and loosely tied cinematic universes being the mainstay of cinema, considered relatively risk-averse by studio execs, compared to new and fresh unknown IPs. that we rarely see. Here we discuss five sequels that were better than previous films in their respective franchises…
Logan (2017)
One of the more recent and obvious entries on the list of five sequels that were better than the previous ones, the less said about Wolverine’s first two solo films the better, without either putting the fire to the world with any creative value. In Hugh Jackman’s final outing as the title character, we finally got what audiences have been asking for since the first X-Men movie in 2000 – an R-Rated gore-filled masterpiece showcasing the best parts of the Logan’s character.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Whether it’s Heath Ledger’s fantastic performance as the Joker, the relatively fast and tight pace of the story, the action sequences, or the whole thing, The black Knight is better in every respect compared to its predecessor batman begins, which in itself is a damn good Batman movie. The dark knight rises certainly doesn’t continue the trend, and it begs the question if Ledger hadn’t unfortunately passed, how different and potentially better would the third entry have been?

Aliens (1986)
James Cameron has been recruited to find an angle for a sequel to the fantastic first film in what is now one of cinema’s biggest franchises. Moving from a strict horror thriller to an action horror, it doubled down on everything the original was known for, from the number of aliens on screen to Ripley saving the day multiple times. Alien is good, but Aliens is better.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
Another entry from James Cameron, this time following his own first film in the series. Unlike the first film, it decided to bring Arnie back as the good guy this time around and amped up the action and consequences. Infinitely quotable and with a surprisingly dark ending, this was the last time the Terminator series was really good all the way through.

The Godfather Part II (1974)
The most famous entry in the list of five sequels that were better than the previous one in the franchise, it continues the story of the Corleone family, this time following Michael as he attempts to expand control and power. of the family. Unfortunately for this series, the third installment is well regarded as one of the worst sequels in movie history, so while it’s better than the first, the third is far worse than the first two by some margin.
