James Gunn revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will exclude this integral character.
Marvel Studios Phase 4 will wrap up later this year with the theatrical release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. But the year won’t end without the release of Disney Plus Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special, which director James Gunn has acknowledged will be the epilogue to Phase 4.
The special will take place after the events of Thor: Love and Thunder and before the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. With that in mind, some are curious which characters will appear and which won’t, given both the Holiday special and Flight. 3 were filmed around the same time. Well, James Gunn confirmed on his official Twitter that Gamora (Zoe Saldana) won’t be appearing:
Since the Holiday special takes place after the events of Thor: Love and Thunder, and just before Flight. 3, it makes sense that Gamora doesn’t appear. The pictures of Flight. 3 which screened exclusively at Comic-Con showed fans that she was gone to lead the Ravagers, and Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) is still dealing with the trauma of losing her in Avengers: Infinity War. Naturally, it’s a different storyline given that this variant of Gamora lived a different life than the version he fell in love with, given that Thanos (Josh Brolin) sacrificed his life to retrieve the Soul Stone.
The Guardians recently appeared in Thor: Love and Thunder. Here is the synopsis:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on an unprecedented journey – a quest for inner peace. But his retreat is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magic hammer, Mjolnir, as Mighty. Thor. Together they embark on a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s revenge and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the solo Thor film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan , Pom Klementieff , Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
Taika Waititi Thor: Love and Thunder now playing in theaters. Meanwhile, James Gunn Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters May 5, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the MCU and subscribe to the Heroic Hollywood YouTube channel for more original video content.
