Florida high school student Christian Bono was killed in a car crash along with two other teenagers, one of whom was his younger brother.
Along with his brother, Matthew Bono, Bono played varsity baseball at St. Lucie West Centennial High School. Nehemiah, a member of the varsity baseball team at Treasure Coast High School, was another friend of his who was injured in the incident.
When the disaster happened, Christian was only 16; his brother was 15; and his friend Turban was 16 years old. They were on the same Little League travel team and were great friends.
Accidental death of Christian Bono
In early August 2020, Christian Bono and Nehemiah Turban died in a car accident, leaving his brother Matthew seriously injured.
According to a collision investigation, Christian, 16, was the driver and Turban, 16, was the passenger at the time of the collision. Authorities say Bono hit a utility pole because he was driving too fast to take a small curve near Southwest California Boulevard and Southwest Heatherwood Boulevard.
While the 15-year-old was sent to hospital with serious injuries and died on August 5 while undergoing treatment, the two youngsters sitting up front perished at the scene. Christian was traveling at high speed in a 2003 Toyota Camry which caused him to lose control and veer into oncoming traffic before colliding with the cement pole.
Funeral notices for deceased teenagers
In an obituary for the boys and a memorial to the loss of their students, Christian Bono and the Turban School wrote: “Absolutely, these two young men were excellent lads. For the secondary schools and the two programs, it is a terrible loss.
A memorial for Christian and Turban was erected near the crash scene by friends, family and teachers in honor of the young people who died. The death of the grandchildren brought the whole town together to offer support and offer condolences to the parents of the deceased.
Two weeks after the disaster, Bono and Turban shared a memorial service and both teams mourned their lost players on the Little League field. A woman from their school organized a fundraiser to help the family by raising $77,000 for the funeral and hospital costs of the two boys.
