How Dwayne Johnson Changed His Nickname From ‘Rocky Miavia’ To ‘The Rock’
In a recent interview, Dwayne Johnson revealed the story behind how he got his name, The Rock. He said:
“The story of how the Rock was born is before I did what I do now, many moons ago I was throwing 300 pound men for a living and getting my ass kicked. And then my original nickname was ‘Rocky Miavia’ which was a combination of my dad’s first name and my grandfather’s last name because they were both professional wrestlers.

He then went on to explain that the name was given to him by WWE CEO Vince McMahon, but he honestly said he hated it and added:
“The lineage I had gave me the opportunity to at least knock on the door…I wanted my own identity.”

Who dubbed Dwyane Johnson as “The Rock”?
Considering his reasons, McMahon said something to him, yes I know it’s a shame, but still made him keep the nickname. The former wrestler decided to improve his identity by being “Rocky Maivia”, but he ended up changing it according to his wish, as the name ultimately did not resonate with his fans.

As he got carried away with his career as a badass in the wrestling world, Dwayne Johnson eventually changed his name to the nickname “The Rock”, which was thrown at him by the late Hall of Fame wrestler. Pat Patterson, whom he considered a father as a figure. This nickname eventually rose to fame and helped build his bigger identity as one of the biggest personalities in the wrestling world as well as in his acting career.
