Amanda Waller actress Viola Davis is the latest big name to join The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes cast.
Lionsgate continues to launch the set for their continuation of The hunger Games franchise, The Balland of Songbirds and Snakes. On Monday it was announced that The Suicide Squad star Viola Davis would also appear in the upcoming film.
Who plays Viola Davis?
Viola Davis is set to take on another antagonistic role as Volumnia Gaul, the head ringleader of the 10th annual Hunger Games, which stars Rachel Zegler’s Lucy Gray Baird. After The Hollywood Reporter broke the story, Lionsgate confirmed the news with director Francis Lawrence saying the following about Davis’ addition to the cast:
“Dr. Gaul is as cruel as she is creative and as formidable as she is fearsome. Snow’s craftsmanship as a political operative grows largely through his experiences with her as the games’ most dominant figure.
The hunger Games Producer Nina Jacobson also shared her excitement for bringing Davis into the franchise:
“From the start, Viola has been our dream for Dr. Gaul because of the finely layered intelligence and emotion she brings to every role. A brilliant and eccentric strategist, Gaul helps make the young Coriolanus Snow the man he will become. We are incredibly lucky to have an actor with Viola’s extraordinary range and presence to play this pivotal role.
Here is the premise for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes:
Years before he becomes the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is the last hope of his dwindling bloodline, a once-proud family that has fallen out of favor in a post-war Capitol. With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, young Snow is alarmed when he is named a mentor to Lucy Gray Baird, the female tribute of impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy Gray gets the full attention of Panem singing defiantly during the harvest ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor. Uniting their showmanship instincts and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird and who is a snake.
Directed by Francis Lawrence from a script written by Michael Lesslie, Michael Arndt and author Suzanne Collins, the upcoming film stars Tom Blythe as Coriolanus Snow, Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird, Jerome Lance as Marcus, Ashley Liao in Clemensia Dovecote, Knox Gibson as Bobbin, Mackenzie Lansing as Coral and Aamer Husain as Felix Ravinstill, Josh Andrés Rivera as Sejanus Plinth and Hunter Schafer as Tigris Snow, Jason Schwartzman as Lucretius “Lucky” Flickerman, Peter Dinklage as Casca Highbottom and Viola Davis as Volumnia Gaul.
