Ewan McGregor recently revealed that Disney Plus Obi Wan Kenobi series originally centered on Luke Skywalker instead of Princess Leia.
Earlier this year, Obi Wan Kenobi premiered on Disney Plus after the show was repeatedly delayed. The main source of the delays is believed to be scripting issues and several changes had to be made. Specifically, the writing was considered too dark for what Lucasfilm wanted and Darth Maul was rumored to be the main antagonist.
One of the most surprising aspects of Obi Wan Kenobi was his first story. As the character went on a mission to rescue Princess Leia from the Inquisitors. Her twin brother, Luke, ended up having a very minor role on the show, appearing in the first episode before having a larger role in the season finale. Ultimately, however, their roles were originally meant to be reversed.
A Moment of Genius
During a speech at FAN EXPO, star Ewan McGregor revealed that the show was originally going to be about Luke and Kenobi. Then, in a moment McGregor described as a moment of genius, everyone thought better:
“It was going to be a story about me and Luke. It was always going to be that, and it was one of the great moments where everyone was like, ‘Wait a minute,’ and then it changed.”
Here is the synopsis of Obi Wan Kenobi:
Under the rule of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi embarks on a crucial mission. Kenobi must face allies turned enemies and face the wrath of the Empire.
Directed by Deborah Chow from scripts by Joby Harold, the series stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang , Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.
