The next John Wick prequel series, The Continentalmoved from the cable network, Starz, to the Peacock streaming service.
Originally revealed in 2018, The Continental The series was said to be about the inner workings of the franchise’s iconic hotels. In the John Wick universe, hotels were a sort of haven for killers or anyone with an organized crime background as long as they were members. In the movies, the New York version was directed by Ian McShane’s Winston with another in Italy directed by Franco Nero’s Julius.
Eventually it was revealed that The Continental the series would be a prequel to the films. Mel Gibson was cast in a key role with Colin Woodell playing a younger version of Winston. Now the series has found a new home and an expected release date.
According to Variety, The Continental moved from Starz to Peacock. It’s currently expected to hit the streaming service in 2023. It’s not entirely clear why the series was moved from Starz.
Here is the official synopsis of The Continental:
“A prequel spin-off, Continental is set 40 years before the events of the Wick series and centers on a young man named Winston. He would one day become the character played by Ian McShane in the Wick films, but in the prequel story, a young man starts out as a hitman hotelier who, along with others, creates a haven for unsavory types, all against the backdrop. of 1970s New York.
The Continental will air as a three-episode event series with Greg Coolidge and Kirk Ward serving as showrunners. John Wick creators Chad Stahelski and Derek Kolstad will also part ways as executive producers.
