Nicola Mendelson, English advertising manager, has an incurable disease called follicular lymphoma.
Nicola was diagnosed with sickness in 2016 and will continue to experience it in 2022. Follicular lymphoma is a form of blood cancer that attacks lymphocytes, a form of white blood cells. Lymphocytes help fight infections and build immunity. As the disease affects the lymphocytes, the victim develops a weakened immune system.
Nicola underwent immunotherapy and chemotherapy treatments which made her cancer free in 2018. However, she is still not free of follicular lymphoma.
Due to the risk of cancer recurrence, the former Facebook executive continued immunotherapy even after becoming cancer-free. But, she had to stop the treatment because of the covid pandemic.
Also, Nicola was initially unable to vaccinate against covid due to his weakened immunity against cancer. She tested negative for antibodies, forcing her to work from home for two years.
She eventually developed enough antibodies to get vaccinated against covid in February 2022. Over the past few years, Mendelsohn’s health has improved dramatically; however, she still has follicular lymphoma and risks of cancer recurrence.
