In 2009, Disney bought the rights to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then, the family-run megacorporation hasn’t delved too deeply into the darker parts of Marvel comics. There haven’t been too many violent moments in the MCU so far, but the focus has been on lighter, more fantastical stories.
That being said, Disney recently acquired the rights to darker characters such as Wolverine and Deadpool, leaving fans to speculate how these more mature characters will fit into the MCU. Between that and the news that Daredevil and Punisher could be making cameo appearances in upcoming projects, it could be that more violent times in the MCU are on the way.
With that in mind, we’ve decided to look back at some of the MCU’s most violent moments so far:

5. Emil Blonsky gets kicked into a tree by The Incredible Hulk
The Incredible Hulk is often overlooked when discussing the MCU. Whether that’s because it was released before Disney’s official takeover, or because of Bruce Banner’s character redesign in The Avengers is not clear. One thing that is not forgettable though is that brutal kick suffered by Emil Blonsky from Tim Roth.
Of course, Blonsky probably deserved it, considering he’s not the nicest guy in the world. At the same time, bouncing on the grass in a tree trunk like that is not something you would wish on your worst enemy. The crunch sound made when Emil collides with the trunk as well as the way his seemingly lifeless body crumbles afterward is truly brutal.
4. Sara is melted by The Scarlett Witch in front of Wong
There were several moments throughout Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness which could be considered among the most violent moments in the MCU. It’s a Sam Raimi movie after all! Although the one that stands out the most in my mind is the moment Sara sheds a tear as she turns to ash in front of a restrained Wong.

If seeing the Sorcerer Supreme being forced to watch one of his students get murdered is disturbing enough, it’s the way Sara is killed that stands out. Watching the character slowly burn and turn to ash after destroying the Darkhold is an image that stays with the viewer long after the film is over.
3. Tony Stark’s convoy is attacked
Not only the opening scene of Iron Man a lesson in selling technology to a potential enemy, but it’s also the birth of the entire Marvel film franchise. As such, it’s still quite surprising to go back and look back at this scene and see just how much darkness it unfolds.
Watching things go from a light-hearted, carefree minute to an intense, deadly minute is shocking and also sums up how quickly a situation can turn for a soldier. Watching these clumsy, clumsy troops switch gears to deal with the situation before they are unceremoniously mown down is heartbreaking to watch.
2. The Mind Stone is ripped from Vision’s head
Alright, so this one might not be among the most physically violent moments in the MCU since Vision is a cyborg and not made of flesh and blood. Instead, this scene is more emotionally violent. Seeing Wanda watch as the love of her life is brutally killed twice in front of her is so haunting that it continued to inspire the entire plot of Wanda vision.

1. John Walker decapitates an opponent using Captain America’s shield
While physically painful to watch, this one hits on more than one level for Cap fans. Seeing a shield that was once held up as a symbol of hope being used as a makeshift guillotine in public is not easy on the eyes. Regardless of your thoughts on US Agent, that’s not what Steve Rodgers would have wanted his legacy to be.
