The man who killed Chris Kyle is still in prison as of 2022. The tragedy occurred on February 2, 2013, when veteran Eddie Ray Routh, who had PTSD, shot him and his friend Chad Littlefield.
Two years after the incident, he was sentenced to prison in 2015 without the possibility of parole after several trials. Eddie was 25 at the time and had been in and out of mental hospitals for about two years.
He shot Kyle six times in the back, causing severe damage to his spinal cord and jaw, and puncturing his aorta. After shooting him and his friend, he drove to Midlothian to his sister Laura Blevins’ house and mentioned the incident.
Also, his sister called the emergency operator and mentioned the tragedy. That same day, the officer took Routh to Erath County Jail and held him on $3 million bail, with capital murder on two counts.
After a year, on May 5, 2014, the trial against him was due to begin but was delayed for DNA testing.
Additionally, on February 11, 2015, the trial began and on February 24 of the same year, the trial ended with the jury finding Routh guilty of murdering Kyle and Littlefield.
