Day shift was recently released on Netflix, and it definitely has its flaws. That said, if you’re expecting an easy watch with good action and witty banter between the surprising chemistry-filled duo of Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco, you’re in for a treat. It seems like a good time to discuss three vampire movies better than Day shift and three that are worse…
Better – Daybreakers (2009)
One of the few vampire movies that takes the opportunity to show what would happen once they get overpopulated and nearly run out of their food source (clear lesson to learn here guys), The day breakers stars Ethan Hawke as a vampire with a conscience, working to find a suitable, long-term alternative to human blood. It takes a few liberties with the vampire genre as a whole, but it’s a decent entry on its own.
Worst – Twilight (2008)
You knew it was going to be here, right? Box office receipts aside, Twilight is one of the best vampire movies Quarter day. Dusk and its sequels do their best to defang vampires and its genre as a whole. Terrible cinematic achievement based on terrible fan-fiction literature, it’s not a good sign when its stars come out and poke fun at the franchise.

Better – Let the Good In (2008)
Not to be confused with the mediocre American remake a few years later, the Swedish original is the story of two young children, one an ordinary human, the other a vampire driven to murder in order to survive. Graphic, moving, and showing how good friends can help friends in the worst times, and with the worst crimes, it’s a more dramatic, less combative vampire movie.
Worst – Priest (2011)
Paul Bettany has a habit of choosing fantastic films or absolutely horrible films that he should have avoided. He plays the role of a priest who goes against his sacred vows in a futuristic world, to hunt down the vampires who have kidnapped his niece. The action is okay, but the dialogue and the story as a whole are disastrous.
Better – The Lost Boys (1987)
A cult classic and one of the best vampire movies, it’s going to take a lot for a movie to be better than this Kiefer Sutherland film. The mix of fantastic performances, direction, story pacing and soundtrack means you’ll want to revisit this once a year, usually around October. This is funny.

Worst – Morbius (2021)
A movie mired in production issues, forced ties to other franchises and characters, delays, and a horrific story, Morbius became not only one of the worst movies of 2021, but easily of the vampire genre as a whole. This movie also gives Jared Leto an unwanted record of that kind, as he’s been in two of the most poorly received superhero movies on either side of the DC/Marvel universes.
This list of three vampire movies better than Day shift and three that this worst could have been a lot longer, because the vampire genre isn’t exactly short of entries, but what else would you have added, be it the best or worst side?
