Thor Star Idris Elba, who played the Asgardian god Heimdall, teased the character’s return to the MCU after his post-credits appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Idris Elba’s Heimdall met his death at the hands of Thanos in 2018’s opening scene Avengers: Infinity War. However, after Thor: Love and Thunder saw Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster meet her end as well, a post-credits scene showing Jane’s arrival in Valhalla saw her being greeted by Heimdall.
Now, Idris Elba has suggested this might not be the last time Marvel fans will see his Asgardian, with a potential future MCU project already in the works.
While promoting his latest film, The beastSyfy asked Idris Elba if he could return to the MCU to play Heimdall again.
The Luther The star admitted he loves playing the character and apparently teased that another Asgardian appearance was already in the works at Marvel. However, like any true Marvel star, Elba refused to leak details about her possible next MCU appearance.
Responding to the question of Heimdall’s potential return, Idris Elba said:
“Heimdall is a beloved character, I love playing him. Maybe there’s something cooking.
When asked what exactly could be in the works for Heimdall, Elba said: ‘I don’t know, I would tell you if I did. Well, probably not…”
While Heimdall now appears to be settled into a life in Valhalla, it looks like he could still have adventures ahead of him in the afterlife. Alternatively, Marvel may want to travel back in time and tell past stories of Heimdall’s life, or even reintroduce Idris Elba as a different version of Heimdall from elsewhere in the multiverse.
There are endless possibilities for whatever Idris Elba works on next with Marvel, but it seems Heimdall’s time in the MCU isn’t over yet.
