‘Movies are ruled by money’: John Carpenter hints at dissatisfaction with Studio Milking Halloween franchise, says the end of Halloween won’t be the end

Halloween is considered the film that launched a long line of slasher films in Hollywood. Currently, the franchise consists of 12 films, with another set to be released in a few months. While the franchise still manages to become a blockbuster and make massive amounts of money, filmmaker John Carpenter thinks it’s nothing more than a slot machine for producers. John Carpenter is the man who started this franchise. He directed the 1978 horror movie. The director always talked about the business side of the industry; its latest victim appears to be the Michael Myers slasher franchise.

John Carpenter unhappy with Halloween makers

Even though the Halloween franchise is known for its horror and slasher portrayal, the timeline shown in the movie has also caused a lot of confusion over the years. According to the chronology followed, the next film would end the story of Laurie Strode played by Jamie Lee Curtis.

According to John Carpenter, he is not very happy with the makers because they seem to be milking the franchise. Speaking on the lucrative side of Hollywood, it’s pretty sure the franchise will continue to exist as long as it brings in enough profit:

“I didn’t expect there to be a sequel [to Halloween ’78]. Cinema is ruled by money. [The first] Halloween made so much money, here they came back, same guys [saying], ‘Hey John, let’s do another one. I guarantee you that if Halloween Ends is making a lot of money, guess what? Guess what.

Specifically, John Carpenter wasn’t associated with the franchise after the first film until he returned as a composer for the 2018 remake. start making sequels just to make money from an established title.
