The recent release The beast featured Idris Elba as a father who must protect his teenage daughters from a man-eating lion during a trip to South Africa. Speaking about the film, the Heimdall actor revealed that this film was also supposed to star another member of the Elba family. Her daughter Isan Elba also auditioned for this film to play her on-screen daughter, but failed to take the opportunity. Isan Elba is the daughter of Idris Elba and the oldest of his two children. Isan Elba reportedly lost the film due to his lack of on-screen chemistry with his father.

Idris Elba’s daughter failed to be his on-screen child

According to Luther actor, the reason given for his rejection was a lack of on-screen chemistry with his real-life father. He added that after the audition, she didn’t speak to him for three weeks:
“She wants to be an actress and she auditioned. And you know, it came down to chemistry at the end. You know, my daughter, she was great, but the relationship in the movie and the relationship with my daughter was – the chemistry wasn’t right for the movie, weirdly enough. My daughter didn’t speak to me for about three weeks.
Following this, he also praised his daughter, saying that even though she couldn’t star in the film, she was supportive enough to accompany him to the premiere:
“I’m really proud that she got through this, you know what I mean. And then not getting the role, but still coming to the premiere.
This no doubt shows great parenting skills on Idris Elba’s part and it is hoped that one day the father and daughter will be seen on screen.

The film’s producer Will Packer also commented on this issue and explained that it’s normal for a real-life relationship not to work on screen because many aspects cannot be shown properly in the movies:
“Idris is right, some of the nuances of that real-life relationship sometimes don’t translate to the screen.”
