Locations used for Groundswell filming
The majority of “Groundswell” was filmed in Oahu, located in Hawaii. Principal photography for the film began in the second half of May 2022 and continued until June of the same year. Filming wrapped in 2022. Together, let’s take a look at the ins and outs of how the film was shot.
O’ahu, Hawaii
“Groundswell” was filmed on numerous islands in Hawaii, including Oahu, which served as the setting for several sequences. It’s no surprise that the production team for the Hallmark movie chose to shoot here in Hawaii given that the majority of the story takes place there. On Oahu’s Waikiki Beach, located in the homonymous neighborhood of the same name, waterfront and surf footage was filmed. Waikiki Beach is one of six nearby beaches, so it attracts many visitors throughout the year. These visitors come to Waikiki Beach to enjoy the spectacular ocean views. It seems that a significant part of the beach has been created by human activity, which is an interesting fact. As part of the process of shoreline development and restoration in and around Waikiki, millions of cubic feet of sand have been added to the beach. Between mid-September and late March, visitors to Waikiki who want to witness a breathtaking sunset over the water have the opportunity to do so.
Hawaii’s state capital, Honolulu, sits on the southeastern tip of the island of Oahu. Oahu is well known for a number of tourist attractions, in addition to being the location of the state capital. As the movie “Groundswell” shows, this area actually has a strong surfing culture. Triple Crown of Surfing is the name of a series of professional surfing competitions that have been held annually on the North Shore of Oahu since 1983. The competition is held annually between the months of November and December and participants participate. After the conclusion of each individual competition, the winner of the competition as a whole is determined and proclaimed based on the respective performance of the participants.
It’s no surprise that the island of Oahu in the Hawaiian Channel is a favorite among filmmakers for producing their films. The island is home to a number of stunning landscapes and a vibrant culture. Films set in Hawaii or other coastal regions sometimes include scenes from famous local landmarks, such as Waikiki Beach. Many other movies have characters having their own enlightening experiences in Hawaii, much like the events that unfolded in the Hallmark movie that was watched. Throughout its history, the island of Oahu has hosted the filming of a wide variety of critically acclaimed films, including “Punch-Drunk Love” and “Big Eyes.”
