Neil Gaiman Can Continue ‘The Sandman’ Season 2 Outside Of Netflix

Neil Gaiman has revealed he can bring The sand man to another platform if Netflix does not renew it for season 2.

Netflix’s new original series The sand man premiered earlier this month and has since become one of the streaming service’s most popular titles throughout August. The series, which is based on Neil Gaiman’s comic book series of the same name, recently released a two-part bonus episode and continues to enjoy strong stream counts.

However, the high ratings given to The sand man may not guarantee a Netflix season 2. Neil Gaiman tweeted that even though he topped the global charts, due to expense, it might not be enough for a renewal on the streaming service:

A fan then asked Neil Gaiman if he could still bring The sand man to another streaming platform if Netflix decides not to renew it for season 2, to which it confirmed that although it does not own the rights, DC Comics and Warner Bros. can transfer it to other services such as Amazon Prime, HBO Max or Apple TV+:

Here is the synopsis from Netflix The sand man:

There is another world that awaits us all when we close our eyes and sleep – a place called the Dream, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives form to all our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence triggers a series of events that will forever change the worlds of Dream and Eve. To restore order, Dream must travel across different worlds and timelines to undo the mistakes he has made over his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes and encountering new entities – both cosmic and human – along the way.

The Netflix series stars Tom Sturridge, Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Jenna Coleman, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis, Stephen Fry, Patton Oswalt and Mark Hamill.

wonder woman co-writer Allan Heinberg serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer on Sandman. In addition to their writing duties, Neil Gaiman and David S. Goyer are also on board as executive producers.

The sand man is streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the series and subscribe to the Heroic Hollywood YouTube channel for more original video content.
