The first episode of She-Hulk gave us some old references, new characters, and a glimpse into the Hulk’s post-endgame life.
Marvel today released the first episode of its new Disney Plus show, She-Hulk, Attorney At Law, starring Tatiana Maslany as the cousin of the Strongest Avenger. Marvel is once again moving from its weekly release schedule, now releasing each episode on Thursdays instead of Wednesdays.
The new episode turned out to be fun, full of action and suspense, with a hint of jealousy. The show takes us through the events that completely changed the life of Jennifer Walters, aka She Hulk.
She-Hulk in the comics
Jennifer Walters in the comics gets shot by a gangster and is therefore saved by her blood transfusion with her cousin Bruce, who saves her but also shares some of his powers with her.
The same doesn’t seem to be the case in this show as Jennifer and Bruce encounter an accident, resulting in drops of Bruce’s blood falling onto Jennifer’s injured arm, resulting in an unwanted blood transfusion.
As we further see Bruce helping Jennifer understand her new powers, many surprises arise such as the revelation that no alter ego exists inside Jennifer, which surprises Bruce, who has been battling his alter ego for about 15 years old, even as shown in the series by him. The level of control Jennifer has over her new powers certainly makes Bruce a victim of jealousy.
A flight to the past
She-Hulk takes us back to the events of Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War, continually evoking Steve Rogers and Tony Stark.
We learn more about the Science Brothers and the relationship Bruce had with Tony, and a little chat about Steve Rogers reveals his virginity status.
The show certainly proves to be a character arc for the Hulk and shows him dealing with the events after Infinity War and Endgame. How he dealt with the trauma after Tony’s death, how he managed to make a pact with his alter ego and control his transformation.
This episode also showed us Bruce’s love for Natasha, Steve and Tony.
Cameos confirmed in the show
The episode ended with a not-so-unpopular face from Jameela Jamil, who played Titania, one of She-Hulk’s biggest rivals in the comics, a member of the infamous Thunderbolts, and the one who might be the… opening of the MCU to bring in Doctor Doom.
It’s not the only expected cameo from the series, we have yet to see Wong, Emil Blonsky aka Abomination and Matt Murdock aka Daredevil.
Let’s see what Marvel has in store for us in the next episodes.
