The sand man released on August 5 on Netflix, has become one of the streaming platform’s most successful shows. Just three days after its release, the show topped Netflix’s top 10 with 69.5 million hours viewed. Between August 8 and August 14, the show totaled 127.5 million hours of viewing.
Not only the number, The sand man also has a positive response from viewers and good reviews. The show’s actors Tom Sturridge, Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong and Patton Oswalt gave their best performance.
However, even after all this, Netflix may not have any intention of renewing The Sandman season 2.

Neil Gaiman Reveals The Sandman May Not Get Another Season
The author of the original novel, Neil Gaiman, has revealed that Netflix may not renew season 2 of the series despite its overwhelming popularity.
The show is based on a novel of the same name and took years of work to bring to the screen. It was originally adapted into a movie, but when that didn’t work out, Netflix decided to make it a series in 2019.
He follows the lord of dreams, Dream, who is trapped by a human. When he finally manages to escape his 100 years of imprisonment, he discovers that his kingdom is no longer the same. He plans to restore his kingdom and discovers who the true antagonist of the story is.
After the last episode of the series, a bonus episode, titled ‘Dream of a thousand cats‘ and ‘Calliope‘ was released on August 19. An unexpected episode quickly spurred interest in the series, and viewers began to hope for more.
The reason not to renew The Sandman Season 2
As already stated, it was planned as a movie, but when that didn’t work out, Netflix stepped in and decided to release it as a series. When this happened, Netflix itself had to invest a certain amount in the production of the show, whose production cast was already high.
Author Neil Gaiman responded to a tweet saying, “Because Sandman is a very expensive show. There is still hope for season 2
Netflix hasn’t renewed the show as of yet, but according to Gaiman’s tweet, the show has to be incredibly strong to get another season. So, given its success, there might be a slim chance that we’ll see The Sandman season 2.
But the author also said in his tweet, “That may not be enough yet.” This portends some sort of disagreement on Netflix’s part for The Sandman season 2. However, Netflix has made no announcement on either its cancellation or its renewal.
The sand man was a very expensive series to produce. The writer said the show was expensive to produce and it would take the best impression on people and Netflix to get a second season.
Netflix’s Financial Struggle
According to the author, the show must hold its position at the top for at least a month, to obtain a renewal. However, it hasn’t even been a month since its release, so there are still chances that it will get its renewal.
It’s been two weeks since the show’s release and it has retained its top spot. For now, if he manages to make it a little longer, The sand man season 2 may also get confirmed.
Even after getting the No. 1 spot for a month or more, it might not help renew the series because its production cost is very high and Netflix hasn’t been at its best for a few months. With the continued loss of its subscribers, the streaming platform is suffering financially.
However, that has never stopped Netflix from having sequels to its most-watched shows. Most Netflix top 10 shows get a sequel and eventually become a franchise, and there are plenty of examples of that.
The same can happen with The sand man so, and given the response the show has received, there’s no way Netflix won’t run another season. Well, we will have to wait and see if there will be a season 2 or not.
