We all know what a brilliant futurist Tony is, secretly admitting his mistakes and working on them to deal with similar situations in the future.
There are countless times we’ve seen Tony upgrade his suit after nearly dying due to some loophole he didn’t think of for adding his Iron Man suit.
Some Early Iron Man Suit Upgrades Tied To Specific Events
Well, there are a lot of them, but let’s focus on a few that have been highlighted the most:
- In the first part of avengers, Tony went to space to safely release the nuclear missile and save New York City from collateral damage. His suit stopped working in space and he passed out and nearly returned to Earth. Keeping that in mind, Tony has worked so long to create a suit that can work well in space. Finally, we saw the Mark 50 suit in Avengers: Infinity Warwhere we finally saw Tony fight in barrier-free space.
- In Captain America: Civil War, we saw James Rhodes, aka War Machine, crash when his Arc Reactor was damaged. Tony tried to push towards Rhodey to catch him before he crashed. So we saw Tony create a power thruster in Avengers: Infinity War to save Peter as he was carried away by the spaceship.
The Nanotech Shield upgraded to the Holographic Shield
In Avengers: infinity war, we saw another major upgrade that Tony summed up in his MK 50. In this fight with Captain America in Civil War, we saw Tony’s suit compromised in melee. Steve also ripped off Tony’s helmet, leaving him vulnerable to Cap’s attack.
Keeping that in mind, he used nanotechnology to build his new suit with melee combat weapons, which we saw him use when battling Thanos on Titan and Ebony Maw on Earth. He also learned that someone can easily rip off either part of their body in hand-to-hand combat. Therefore, he programmed nano-technology to recover selected exposed areas during intense combat.
And every inch of those upgrades helped him bleed out Thanos and nearly defeat him on Titan.
In the midst of the fight on Titan between Thanos and Iron Man, we saw Tony create a nanotech shield to defend against Thanos’ Power Stone blast. Even though Tony’s MK 50 was well suited to prevent the power stone from hurting Tony, but the nanoparticles were taking their toll due to the power of an infinity stone.
As a result, Tony’s suit became increasingly weak in combat. So, to remedy this problem, Tony turns his nanotech shield into a holographic shield in Avengers: endgame. He was seen activating it to protect Clint in the scene, as the Hulk was about to make the snap.
He has already predicted that he will sometimes face attacks from the Infinity Stones in the future. For this, he upgraded his costume, which shows how Tony learns from his mistakes.
