The upcoming series Andor is going to be the latest addition to the Star Wars franchise. It’s the prequel to one of the best Star Wars movies A thug. Even though the series falls under the Star Wars umbrella, there’s no denying that the look and feel of this one is different. Also earlier, when the teasers and trailers dropped, fans expressed their excitement over the different and more mature approaches the show has taken. Speaking on the subject, show creator Tony Gilroy revealed that he doesn’t want to take on the classic Star Wars tropes in this show.

Andor is not about Skywalkers at all

A thug was a revolution in the Star Wars franchise. It followed the story of the rebel alliances’ victory over the Empire. The story centered around a group of people on a mission to retrieve Death Star’s plans. The storyline and themes of the series were very different from what we had seen in the franchise so far. Acting as a prequel, it was well expected from Andor also to take a different path from the others.

Speaking about the different take on the show, creator Tony Gilroy said the show isn’t about the high-class Jedi or other Skywalker-related ones we’ve seen leading the franchise to date. Instead, this show goes to the ground level focusing on other sectors of society like plumbers, factory workers and journalists:
“I wanted to do it on real people,” says Gilroy. “They did all this IP on the Royal Family, basically. It was awesome. But there are a billion, a billion, a billion other beings in the galaxy. There are plumbers and cosmeticians. Journalists! What are their lives like? The revolution affects them as much as anyone else. Why not use the “Star Wars” canon as the host organism for absolutely realistic, passionate and dramatic storytelling? »
Gilroy’s main motive is also to present the lives of the characters as well as Cassian Andor’s story which he hardly thinks will be worked on by other Star Wars shows.

As Star Wars is also known for its fan service, when Tony Gilroy was asked whether or not something similar existed in this series, he revealed that there was none.
“never fan service”
Now it will be interesting to know what Cassian Andor, the character of Diego Luna, was up to in the last five years before the events of A thug.

According to the actors and the creator of the series, Andor is another case in the Star Wars saga. Located in a Jason Bourne-Ton Esque, it follows the character of Diego Luna acting undercover against the Colossal Empire. Along with this spy thriller perspective, the series will also deal with mature topics like the importance of community. As described by Diego Luna, this show isn’t like the purely stereotypical war of hero versus villain. No one can do anything alone. It requires a community.
“It’s the articulation of a rebellion,” says the actor. “It’s not about a character who saves everyone. It’s a matter of community.
Speaking further of Andor, Tony Gilroy said that the story will be mature enough and not necessarily serve children’s audiences. Even if the essence of the epic space saga will be found, the execution will be different:
“I don’t think it’s a show for 9-year-olds, probably,” Gilroy says. Which isn’t to say the series doesn’t embrace its “Star Wars” roots. “We are an adventure story,” he adds. “We are a thriller. And very abundantly, we create a lot of intellectual property. Some are at ground level: TV products and shows, all sorts of things. They are all new.
Designed as a classic spy thriller take on the world of Star Wars, the end result is truly eagerly awaited. It will be exciting to see how far the creators have taken this series to make it stand out from the rest of the franchise’s works.
12 episodes of Andor will air on Disney+ starting September 21, 2022, on a weekly basis
