JK Rowling has revealed why she didn’t take part in the HBO Max reunion special, Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts.
In January, HBO Max released a special reunion special titled Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts. The special, which featured the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, among many others, celebrated 20 years since the original release of The Sorcerer’s Stone in theatres. However, JK Rowling’s notable absence has left many wondering about the circumstances.
Although archival footage of JK Rowling was used in the special, the Harry Potter the author was notably absent from the HBO Max reunion beyond that. Some attribute this to the author’s controversial opinions and social media presence, but the author revealed to Graham Norton that she chose not to:
“I was asked to be on it and decided I didn’t want to do it. I thought it was more about the movies than the book rightly so that was what the anniversary was about… No one said no [do it]… I was asked to do it and I decided not to.
