‘The ultimate intention wasn’t to strip naked’: Rian Johnson doesn’t regret making Star Wars: The Last Jedi, says he’s even prouder of it 5 years later

Rian Johnson is still defending Last Jedi

A man has been blamed for the atrocity that was Last Jedi, and it was none other than the film’s director Rian Johnson. The director has continued to defend the film since its release and did so again in an interview with Empire, he said:

“I’m even more proud of it five years later… The ultimate intention was not to strip – the intention was to access the fundamental power of myth. And ultimately, I hope the film is an affirmation of the power of the Star Wars mythos in our lives.

He also defended the portrayal of Luke Skywalker in his film, stating that the character was not deconstructed, but his mythos were constructed and embraced. He further stated that he wanted the character to strip the mythos to take in what matters and inspire the next generation.
