The mysterious boss of She-Hulk
At the end of She-Hulk: Lawyer third episode titled “The People vs. Emil Blonsky”, a group of goons who “stole New Asgard weapons” attack Jennifer Walters in an ally. However, Walters transforms into She-Hulk and easily defeats them. During the fight, one of the henchmen tries to inject a syringe into She-Hulk’s arm to draw out her blood, but the syringe breaks. Those goons who attacked She-Hulk were most likely Marvel’s Demolition Crew. Later, they get into a car, and one of them asks him if he has it (the blood). He says he couldn’t pierce her skin once she transformed into She-Hulk. To which he responds: “Shit. The boss is going to be crazy”. So, who is this mysterious Boss who sent these henchmen to extract She-Hulk’s blood? Let’s speculate through our options one by one.
Since one of the henchmen’s names was Thunderball. When they were all in their van, the leader (who we think is Wrecker) mentioned Thunderball’s name. The only character named Thunderball in the annals of Marvel Comics is the one who is a member of the Demolition Crew in comics. However, unlike their superpowered counterparts in the comics, these thugs were just regular men.
1. Countess Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine
Contessa’s continued appearance throughout Phase 4 was greatly highlighted by Marvel. She seemed to be putting together a team of superheroes/villains for some unknown reason. And since the official announcement of Lightning strikes, the the arrival of a similar super team is imminent. After recruiting Yelena Belova and John Walker, Valentina might find that finding her version of the Hulk is quite difficult. Knowing that they could eventually fight She-Hulk, hiring these henchmen to test her abilities and try to get a DNA sample wouldn’t be surprising.
2. Baron Zemo
If Marvel decides to follow in the same footsteps as in the comics for the Love at first sight, then Baron Zemo will be the leader of the team. Zemo was a master strategist as he was able to break down the Avengers without any powers, with just his blueprint. He may be considering creating his own version of the Hulk. Zemo will then use the team to continue hero deeds in the Avengers’ absence, to create a new public image. Since Zemo’s fate after the events of TFATWS is unknown, he could very well be behind this attack on Jennifer Walters.
3. Thunderbolt Ross/Red-Hulk
With the sad demise of William Hurt who played General Thunderbolt Ross in the MCU, the character (if decided to continue) will surely be recast. In the comic storyline of Love at first sight, General Ross transforms into the Red-Hulk. If that’s what Feige is planning for the MCU, then surely General Ross might need the blood and DNA of Jennifer Walters. This could allow him to send these henchmen to attack Walters. Also, seeing his history with Emil Blonsky and now that he can’t turn into Abomination by law, he might need another version of the Hulk, possibly for himself.
4.Loki
The goons attacking Jennifer Walters were transporting stolen weapons to New Asgard. The only way they could get their hands on them is with the help of someone who knows the ways of Asgard and its safety. It could very well be – Loki. With all the leaks that have surfaced since Loki Season 2, it’s clear that somehow Loki is back. Midgard or the Earth. Notably, this Loki is 2012’s version of the Avengers, and he seems to have reformed after the events of the Loki series. He might remember the Hulk in a “totally different way”. Surely he would have planned something nasty for Avengers or for TVA, for which he might need a blood sample from a Hulk. Maybe that’s why he sent those men with Asgardian weapons.
5. Swivel
The return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk in Hawk Eye proves that Marvel surely has big plans for the character. However, his new intentions are still unknown. With She-Hulk possibly seen as a legal and super-powered threat to his plans, Kingpin hiring the Wrecking Crew is plausible. This is perhaps the common thread in Matt Murdoch’s Daredevil appearance later in the series. However, what will he do with his blood sample, remains to be seen, if this is true.
6. SWORD
In Wanda VisionSWORD director Tyler Hayward (Joshua Collins Stamberg) attempted to recreate his own version of Vision from his corpse. Tyler wanted to use Vision for his own military purposes, but things didn’t go as planned. The White Vision flies away at the end of the series. This surely implies SWORD’s intention to have their own version of a superhero, which they could use for their own purposes. Although unlikely, Tyler might want to have his own version of the Hulk that he could use from Walter’s blood.
Who is really behind this attack, will surely be answered in the next episodes. But we fans can never help but speculate. Fingers crossed, leave the answer to the future and just enjoy the ride as it is!
